Visa regulations and travel guidelines

While you are in the U.S. on your F or J visa, you are responsible for following the rules related to studying, working, and keeping your documents accurate and up to date.

This section provides helpful information about maintaining your visa status and the necessary requirements when wanting to travel. The Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) is here to help advise you, but maintaining your status is your responsibility.

To remain lawfully in the United States, you must adhere to the regulations that govern your visa. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security considers it your responsibility to ensure that you do not do anything that violates the terms of your status. Please remember that the United States government will not accept ignorance of the law for any violation.
